Man dies in shooting at south Macon Pendleton Homes

A man died in a shooting early Friday morning at Pendleton Homes, an affordable housing development operated by the Macon Housing Authority that has seen high crime rates in recent years.

According to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place just after midnight Friday . When deputies arrived on scene, they found 42-year-old Marquiz Dewayne Hoges with a gunshot wound.

Hoges was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

The shooting is under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.

Pendleton Homes has experienced the highest number of reported crimes of any Macon Housing Authority-run property since 2020.

The development reported 28 crimes in 2020, 22 in 2021 and 26 in 2022. Pendleton Homes saw crimes start to drop in recent years, with 14 crimes reported in 2023, 12 in 2024 and 17 in 2025, according to The Telegraph’s previous reporting.

Macon Housing Authority declined to comment on Friday’s shooting.
