Bibb County Sheriff’s Office sits off of Oglethorpe Street on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in Macon, Georgia. The sheriff’s office was investigating a case that allegedly involved an armed robbery of a Lyft driver’s vehicle on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Three people allegedly pulled guns on a Lyft driver, hijacked his vehicle, then crashed during a police chase Monday in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

One of the suspects was a 17-year-old Macon boy who reportedly stole a gun from the driver and then pointed it at deputies while trying to flee, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The 17-year-old and two others reportedly ordered a ride through Lyft, a ride-sharing app, and met the driver around midnight Monday on the intersection of Ell Street and Laveta Drive, in a neighborhood outside of Ballard Hudson Middle School, deputies said.

The driver called 911 after “the passengers brandished firearms at the motorist, demanding his vehicle,” deputies said. The driver exited his vehicle and the suspects allegedly drove away with it.

Deputies said they spotted the vehicle on Log Cabin Drive and attempted to pull it over, but it “refused to stop.”

Deputies chased the vehicle on “a brief pursuit,” then “the suspected driver lost control” and crashed into an embankment near the intersection of Log Cabin Drive and Hillcrest Road, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspects ran away, and the 17-year-old allegedly “exited the vehicle with a firearm in hand pointed towards deputies,” the news release said.

A deputy used a Taser on the 17-year-old after officers told him to drop the gun, according to the sheriff’s office.

The teenager was injured and taken to a local hospital, according to deputies.

The sheriff’s office said the gun he pointed at deputies was stolen from the Lyft driver’s vehicle.

The teen was later booked in the Bibb County Jail and denied bond.

He was charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, felony theft by taking, and felony fleeing and eluding an officer, according to the sheriff’s office.

The incident was under investigation, and deputies urged anyone with tips to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.

No one else was injured or arrested by Monday afternoon, according to Dep. Alexis Mitchell-White, a public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

The Telegraph does not publish the names of suspects under 18 years old.
