Married couple, woman die after shots fired during eviction in Macon neighborhood
A husband and wife and a third person died from gunshots as officers tried to evict someone in a Macon gated community Tuesday, Bibb County officials said.
Deputies said they were trying to “execute an eviction” when they heard gunshots around 10:15 a.m. from inside a home in Lake Wildwood on the 1100 block of Ridgeview Circle off Zebulon Road, a news release from the sheriff’s office said.
The deputies returned to their vehicle and called for backup.
Someone in the home was “barricaded,” deputies said.
The sheriff’s office’s SWAT team, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, drug and violent crimes units, and others responded, according to the news release.
They tried to negotiate with people inside the home but no one responded, the sheriff’s office said.
The SWAT team entered the home around noon where they found two women dead from gunshot wounds, and an injured man who allegedly shot himself, according to the news release.
One of the women and the man were married, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph.
“It is now believed these were the shots heard by the deputies,” the BCSO said.
An ambulance took the injured man to a local hospital where he was in “critical condition” and died around 4:30 p.m., Jones said.
The victims’ families were not yet notified of their deaths by 5:30 p.m., according to the coroner’s and sheriff’s offices.
Deputies urged anyone with tips related to this incident to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
