A 22-year-old allegedly burglarized a Georgia Department of Transportation site Sunday in Forsyth and claimed he was looking for his vehicle that was seized after a previous arrest, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

A supervisor for the GDOT site off Cabiness Drive drove by and called 911 because the entrance looked disheveled around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17, when no one was scheduled to work, according to Anna Watkins, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

The supervisor “noticed the front gate was open and equipment had been moved outside the shop,” a news release from deputies said. The supervisor stopped at the scene and “discovered the building had been forcibly entered, with equipment inside the shop missing or displaced.”

It was unclear if anything was stolen or just moved around, Watkins said Wednesday.

Deputies found evidence at the scene that was allegedly tied to Kenyatta Davon McCloud, who was recently arrested in Monroe County in connection to another incident.

On Jan. 6, deputies tried to pull over McCloud during a traffic violation, but “he fled from the traffic stop,” Watkins told The Telegraph.

“His vehicle, of course, was impounded and he assumed that his vehicle, for some reason, was at the Department of Transportation, but it was not. It was at a wrecker service,” Watkins said.

McCloud was charged with second-degree burglary in Sunday’s incident. He was booked in the Monroe County Jail and was not granted bond by Wednesday.

“It’s just a weird case,” Watkins said.

The incident is still under investigation , she said.
