1 teen killed, another injured in Macon ‘shootout.’ Third teen faces murder charge
A teenager allegedly killed a teen and severely injured another in a shooting Friday in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
A 911 call before 9 p.m. reported someone was shot in the 400 block of Hardwick Drive, in a neighborhood off Houston and Sardis Church roads, deputies said in a news release.
Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph there was a “shootout” at two locations less than a mile away from each other.
Deputies found two 19-year-old boys with gunshot wounds in the area, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley pronounced Dantwan Wynes, 19, dead at the scene. Wynes’ family was notified of his death.
The other victim was found nearby. An ambulance took him to a local emergency room, where he was in “critical but stable condition,” the sheriff’s office said.
Family members of Zay’vion Niseah Dajour Jackson, 18, took him to the sheriff’s office for questioning, according to deputies.
Then Jackson was booked in the Bibb County Jail, deputies said. He was charged with felony murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and three counts of aggravated assault, according to a log of detainees. He was being held without bond, the sheriff’s office said.
“This incident is still under active investigation, pending additional charges,” the news release said.
Deputies were investigating the shooting and urged anyone with tips to call the sheriff’s office at 1-877-68CRIME, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
The shooting a day after local violence prevention advocates met at Macon City Hall to announce increased grant funding toward youth violence prevention.
