13-year-old shot in south Macon, Bibb sheriff’s office says. What we know
A 13-year-old was shot Thursday afternoon in Macon, and deputies said the wound was likely self-inflicted, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
A 911 call came from a home reporting a person shot after 12 p.m. on the 4100 block of Mikado Avenue, in a neighborhood off Broadway in south Macon, deputies said in a news release.
When deputies arrived, they found a 13-year-old boy “suffering from a single gunshot wound,” the news release said.
Paramedics took the boy to a hospital where he was in “stable condition,” according to deputies.
No one else was injured in the incident, deputies said.
“Currently the incident appears to be a self-inflicted accidental shooting,” the news release said. “Investigators are working to determine the circumstances behind the incident.”
Deputies said these details could change as the investigation continues.
They urged anyone with details about this incident to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
The shooting happened around the same time local violence prevention advocates were meeting at City Hall to announce increased grant funding toward youth violence prevention.
