Bibb County grand jurors indicted a 38-year-old Macon man Tuesday in the June 6 shooting of a man who remained hospitalized until he died about two weeks later.
Andre Lucas is charged with murder in the death of William Ford, 55, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.
Authorities have said Ford and a female friend were in a parked vehicle in the 1200 block of Highland Avenue about 10:40 p.m. June 6 when a man, later identified as Lucas, walked up and asked for a cigarette.
Ford and his friend reportedly said they didn’t smoke and Lucas walked away.

Lucas returned at some point, exchanged words with Ford and shot Ford in the neck, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Ford was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he remained hospitalized until his death June 21.
Investigators, while questioning Lucas in the days after the shooting, found that he had an untreated gunshot wound on his right hand -- a wound they suspect he received during the shooting.
Lucas initially was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery, but the charges were upgraded after Ford’s death.
Lucas additionally is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was convicted of cocaine possession in 2000, according to the indictment.
Lucas is being held at the Bibb County jail without bond, according to jail records.
