Young man shot, killed outside Macon gas station, coroner says. Victim identified
A teenager was found dead outside the Citgo gas station on Shurling Drive in Macon after a shooting Wednesday, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.
Jones confirmed the incident happened just before noon Wednesday at Citgo on the 1900 block of Shurling Drive across from Shurling Pointe Plaza. The victim was found outside the front door of the business.
De’Kerrio Cobb, 18, was identified as the victim around 3 p.m. and family members were notified of his death, according to a death investigation report from the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.
Cobb was shot in the head and neck multiple times with 9 mm bullets, the death report said. At least eight shell casings were found.
The shooting was described as homicide, according to the death report.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting was called in to 911 just before noon Wednesday. Officers who showed up at the scene found Cobb unresponsive after being shot. Deputy Coroner Luann Stone confirmed the victim was dead at the scene around 10 minutes later.
A person of interest was identified by surveillance footage Wednesday afternoon, and the sheriff’s office shared a photo of them at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The name of the person was unknown.
While deputies investigated the scene, they received a lead connected to the investigation around 1 p.m., according to Sgt. Christopher Williams.
At least four patrol vehicles activated sirens, left the gas station and sped west on Shurling Drive to follow the lead, but nobody was arrested by 3:30 p.m., Williams said.
“Investigators are asking anyone who knows the identity or the whereabouts of this person of interest, or have any information in connection to the investigation to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME,” the sheriff’s office said.

Dozens of onlookers and family members watched the scene from nearby parking lots as investigators worked. Deputies also blocked one lane of the road, causing a traffic backup around 12:45 p.m.
