Man who went on a ‘public indecency spree’ in Houston County sentenced to prison
A man who went on a “public indecency spree” in Houston County during the summer of 2024 was sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to a news release from District Attorney Eric Edwards on Monday.
Demarcus Tyrell Mann, 30, pleaded guilty at the end of October to three counts of public indecency. Even though public indecency is a misdemeanor in Georgia, it becomes a felony after two prior convictions for the same offense — his recent plea was his sixth conviction for public indecency, leading to a 10-year prison sentence followed by five years of probation, according to Edwards. He received his sentence Friday.
Mann went on a “public indecency spree across much of Houston County” between June and July 2024, the news release said. He went to three insurance agencies under the pretense of transacting business. But after striking up a conversation with female employees in those businesses, he exposed himself in front of the women, according to the news release.
He would flee once calls to law enforcement were made, but was eventually caught on July 31, 2024.
“Although public indecency is often dismissed as a ‘minor’ offense, this case demonstrates precisely why repeat behavior of this nature is treated as a serious felony under Georgia law,” Edwards said. “Mr. Mann was not deterred by prior convictions, and his conduct escalated into a pattern of predatory behavior that posed a real threat to the safety and sense of security of people across Houston County.”
