Man arrested in connection with fatal hit-and-run in Macon What we know.
A man was arrested Sunday night in connection with a fatal hit-and-run near the intersection of Pierce Avenue and Riverside Drive in Macon, according to Georgia State Patrol.
The suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Francisco Chan-Garcia, allegedly hit a pedestrian around 9 p.m. and abandoned his car, a Honda Civic, at the scene, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.
GSP officials said they arrested Chan-Garcia near the scene following the incident after a “be on the lookout” alert went out to local law enforcement.
Neither Jones nor the Georgia State Patrol named the victim, who Jones described as a man and said he did not have identification on his body. The victim was pronounced dead around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, almost immediately after the incident, Jones said.
Chan-Garcia was being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement without bond Monday, according to jail records. He faces charges of homicide by motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of a crash.
Georgia State Patrol said the incident is still under investigation.
