The suspect allegedly responsible for robbing two businesses at gunpoint in Macon has been apprehended, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon.

Bibb County deputies said Dylan Sampson Smith, 20, had allegedly robbed Family Dollar and Lucky’s Food Mart and attempted to rob Melody’s Magic Mart, all while brandishing a gun, between Sunday and Monday.

When allegedly robbing Lucky’s Food Mart at 807 Main St. on Sunday evening, Smith was brandishing a firearm and demanding money. He was also wearing brown coveralls and a ski mask, the sheriff’s office said. He took an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled the business on foot.

Dispatchers received a call at 9:17 a.m. Monday regarding a robbery at the Family Dollar located at 2584 Rocky Creek Road. The caller identified the suspect as someone wearing brown coveralls and a ski mask, brandishing a firearm. He fled the scene on foot after getting an undisclosed amount of money.

Another call came at the Emergency 911 Center at 9:28 a.m. for an attempted robbery at Melody’s Magic Mart at 2487 Rocky Creek Road. The caller reported that the suspect was demanding money from the store clerk while brandishing a firearm, but he wasn’t successful. He then fled on foot.

The caller’s description of the suspect matched the suspect who allegedly robbed Lucky’s Food Mart and Family Dollar, which deputies later identified as Smith.

Deputies eventually located the suspect in a house on Village Green Lane, the sheriff’s office said. He was armed and in the presence of two adults and several children.

Though Smith initially refused to leave the residence at the request of deputies, he surrendered as a SWAT team approached the residence. The two adults and the children exited the home uninjured and relocated to a safe location.

Smith was transported to the Bibb County Jail and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of armed robbery. Inmate records show he’s additionally charged with criminal trespass, battery, criminal attempt to commit a felony and probation violation. He is being held without bond.

The investigation remains active. Deputies urge anyone with information to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
