Shooting in Macon Kroger plaza ends with 4 young men arrested, deputies say

Four people, including three 18-year-olds, were arrested after a shooting in a busy shopping strip in north Macon, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.

Shots were heard around 1:30 p.m. in the Northpark Center, which houses Kroger, Wingstop, Planet Fitness and other businesses at 156 Tom Hill Senior Boulevard off Riverside Drive, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies arrived and saw several men getting out of “a sports utility vehicle (that was) stopped in the roadway on Northside Drive,” the BCSO said.

An armed 21-year-old man ran away from the vehicle and deputies arrested him, a news release said.

An 18-year-old man also fled the vehicle and “dropped a book bag before he was also apprehended,” deputies said.

Another 18-year-old man ran behind the shopping center where he was arrested, deputies said.

Witnesses told deputies at the scene that a third 18-year-old man ran toward Kroger, then he was arrested in the parking lot, according to the sheriff’s office.

The four men were taken to the BCSO’s Investigation Headquarters, deputies said.

“Several firearms, bags of marijuana, and bookbags were recovered by deputies,” the sheriff’s office said.

There were no injuries or property damage during the incident, the BCSO said.

“The investigation is in the preliminary stage and additional information will be provided as it becomes available,” deputies said in a news release.

They urged anyone with details related to the shooting to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
