Houston County robbery victim survives shooting, speaks at trial. Suspect gets life sentence

A man who committed two robberies and planned a third within months of each other in Houston County was ordered to serve life in prison last week after he was convicted in a trial, according to District Attorney Eric Edwards.

Victor Casey Dennard, 33, was found guilty on Oct. 23 after jurors heard evidence over four days of his involvement in a home invasion and armed robbery case that occurred in November 2021. During the invasion, one of the bank tellers was shot in the back of the head, but “miraculously, the victim survived his injuries and testified at trial,” according to Edwards.

Dennard was given a life sentence, plus an additional 20 years in prison.

Greg Winters, the prosecutor in the case, said that this situation was different compared to other cases, as Dennard’s “calculated acts of violence and utter disregard for human life reveal a complete lack of remorse and a continuing danger to this or any community he is part of.”

One Houston County robbery left victim dead

Dennard broke into a house on the street of West Imperial Circle on Nov. 22, 2021, by kicking in the front door, prosecutors said. He pointed a gun at one of the victims, and took another victim’s car keys and vehicle. He used the stolen car to drive to Robins Financial Credit Union, where he took money from the tellers and held multiple victims at gunpoint. Though one of the tellers was shot in the back of the head, they survived.

He committed another robbery on January 2022, “wherein he shot another robbery victim at point-blank range, causing the death of that victim,” Edwards said. In that incident, Dennard was convicted of malice murder in a trial. He also was convicted of armed robbery and other charges. Dennard was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole in that case.

He had planned another robbery but was arrested Feb. 6, 2022, by the Warner Robins Police Department, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and agents with the FBI. Investigators determined he was planning to rob a Wells Fargo Bank in Houston County, Edwards said.

“The fact that two different juries have now convicted him of separate armed robberies and shootings of innocent bystanders speaks for itself,” Edwards said. “His crimes were not spontaneous or desperate—they were deliberate acts of malice, planned and carried out with no regard for human life.”
