Man convicted in 2 Miami killings was released by accident. Now he’s detained in Macon.

A man convicted of two killings in Miami was released by mistake and captured days later in Middle Georgia, court records show.

Now the man will make an appearance in a federal Macon court, and a local city official is facing new charges in connection to the man’s run from law enforcement.

James Edward Daniels, 60, will have his initial appearance in front of Magistrate Judge Charles Weigle on Thursday afternoon after the man, who was convicted for double homicide in Miami, was mistakenly released from the Miami-Dade County Jail on Sept. 27, “as a result of a procedural error,” according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Timishea Price, a city councilmember in Reynolds, was briefly arrested by the Reynolds Police Department after they and the U.S. Marshals asserted that she hindered Daniels’ arrest. The U.S. Marshals reached out to Police Chief Lonnie Holder regarding Daniels’ possible location, according to their press release.

Law enforcement arrived to a house on Mimms Street, where they spoke to Price, at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. When she was asked whether Daniels was at the residence, she denied it. Price consented to a search of the residence, where Daniels was found and apprehended.

The police department stated on Facebook that she’s charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal, which is a felony. She is also out on a $5,000 bond from the Taylor County Jail with pending charges, the news release said.

Daniels was in custody in Macon as of Wednesday, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

It is unclear whether he will return to Miami after his initial appearance with Weigle. Spokespersons with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia have not responded to requests for comment before publication.

Daniels was found guilty of kidnapping and torturing Osmar Oliva, Julio Verdecia and Juan Gonzalez in December 2020. Oliva and Gonzalez were killed, while Verdecia was able to survive, according to multiple media reports. Daniels was sentenced to serve four life sentences in March.

The incident is under investigation. The Telegraph has reached out to Price for comment, but has not received a response prior to publication.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
