Macon officer sent himself photos from woman’s phone during traffic stop, deputies say

A Macon-Bibb County Code Enforcement officer was arrested Monday after he allegedly took the phone of a woman he was pulling over and used it to send himself images, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The officer, Christopher Tyler Willcox, initiated a traffic stop during a shift on Sept. 11, on Hawkinsville Road, deputies said in a news release. It was unclear why he pulled over the vehicle.

He reportedly took the driver’s phone and “returned to his vehicle to verify the motorist’s credentials and vehicle registration,” deputies said. “He later returned the motorist’s phone and ended the traffic stop.”

Then the driver found out “Willcox had sent images from her phone” to his own, deputies said. The images were “photos of the victim,” Sgt. Christopher Williams told The Telegraph.

Willcox broke code enforcement policies by wrongly using the woman’s phone, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office’s Strategic Information Center aided the investigation, and deputies arrested Willcox just before 4:30 p.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. He was taken to the sheriff’s office’s Investigation Headquarters, then held without bond in the Bibb County Jail.

Willcox was charged with violation of oath by a public officer.

The sheriff’s office was still investigating the incident Tuesday.
