Warner Robins man was part of ‘exchange of gunfire’ that left 1 injured, GBI says
A Warner Robins man was arrested in Hawksinville in connection with a “mutual exchange of gunfire between two groups of people” where at least one man was injured, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Monday.
The GBI said that they’ve arrested Nickelas Adams, 21, of Warner Robins, on one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony based on a shooting from Aug. 21 in Hawkinsville, roughly 50 miles south of Macon.
The agency also obtained arrest warrants for David Walker, 20, of Hawkinsville, who is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the GBI.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1st Franklin Financial in Hawkinsville on Aug. 21, just after 4 p.m., in reference to a person who had been shot. There, they made contact with Adams and another man who “had been shot multiple times and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment,” the GBI said. They were found near a silver 2024 Toyota Corolla, which was also shot multiple times.
“Pulaski County deputies searched nearby neighborhoods for a potential incident location,” the GBI said Monday. “During their search, they found numerous cartridge cases in and around the road on Jelks Street, (in) Hawkinsville.”
A preliminary investigation revealed that there was a “mutual exchange of gunfire between two groups of people on Jelks Street,” but the circumstances that led up to the shooting were unknown, according to the GBI.
Adams is in custody at the Pulaski County Law Enforcement Center. The GBI said additional arrests on this incident are expected. The investigation was ongoing Tuesday.
