The Perry Police Department charged 10 “juvenile offenders” with entering auto charges after an investigation into dozens of vehicles being broken into, officials announced on Friday.

The minors allegedly broke into 27 cars between June 29 and Aug. 7 from several neighborhoods in Perry, including Cameron Court Apartments, Berkshire Court Apartments, Perry Heights Apartments, Sewell Circle, Alice Drive, Spring Creek Drive, Third Street and Northside Road, according to the Perry Police Department.

Further investigation by the police revealed that five of the vehicles broken into suffered damage to their ignitions and steering columns. They also were able to recover three stolen firearms, and “other stolen property included shoes and an iPad,” police said. Eight cellphones were seized as part of the investigation.

The charges the minors will face will range from entering an auto and property damage to theft by taking or receiving firearms. One of the suspects faces a charge under the Georgia Gang Act, according to the Perry Police Department.

While some are detained, other suspects were released to their guardians, the police said.

“The Perry Police Department encourages residents to lock their vehicles, remove valuables, and report suspicious activity immediately,” they said Friday.

The police encourage anyone with information related to these crimes to contact Detective Jason Seaman at 478-988-2825 or contact Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-682-7463.
