The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Dennis Coney in a stabbing that caused “critical” injuries to a victim after a fight, officials say.

A 61-year-old has been charged in a fight and stabbing that left a victim in “critical but stable condition,” the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday morning.

The incident was reported just before 10:45 p.m. in the 3800 block of Tela Place Monday, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies responded to a report of a person cut, and found a 33-year-old man suffering from a stab wound when they got to the scene.

“Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local medical facility for treatment,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “According to medical staff, the victim is in critical but stable condition.”

The sheriff’s office said that during its investigation, officers discovered the victim and a “person of interest nearby” got into a physical altercation.

Several hours after the incident was first announced, the sheriff’s office said 61-year-old Dennis Coney was identified as a suspect and arrested. He’s charged with aggravated assault.

A weapon connected to the incident was recovered from the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Coney was being held without bond at the Bibb County Jail Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office said.
