An inmate started a fire inside the Bibb County Jail Thursday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, which runs the jail.

It happened outside of their cell just after 4 p.m., according to the Sgt. Christopher Williams of the sheriff’s office’s public affairs team.

“An inmate was caught attempting to start a fire outside of their cell in the Law Enforcement Center,” Williams said in an email.

Deputies “quickly extinguished the fire,” he said.

No one was injured, and nothing was damaged, Williams told The Telegraph.

He did not provide further details.

The incident was under investigation Thursday night.
