Centerville cops tow car with racist imagery on it, officials say. What we know
Police in Houston County towed away a vehicle with racist and lewd imagery on it that went viral over the weekend.
Video of the vehicle was shared on social media, showing that the car had racial slurs on it, and appeared to have swastikas painted on it. The Centerville Police Department says officers found the car parked in front of a local Crunch Fitness. They found that the vehicle had expired tags and suspended registration.
“The vehicle ... also had lewd sexual language on it and was in the presence of children under the age of 14,” police said in a Facebook post. “The vehicle was subsequently towed for the above stated violations as per Georgia Law.”
“This incident is being investigated as an isolated event but we will be collaborating with our local law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of all the citizens in our community,” Chief Cedric Duncan said on the Centerville Police Department’s Facebook page. “The case will also be referred to the District attorney’s office to see if any further charges are warranted.”
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office also commented on the issue, with Sheriff Matt Moulton saying “hatred does not have a home in Houston County.”
Anyone with information regarding the vehicle should contact the Centerville Police Department.
