Tip helps investigators find suspect of a 2023 Macon murder, officers say
A man was arrested and charged with murder Tuesday, nearly two years after a fatal shooting in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting left David Lamar Morgan, a 58-year-old Cochran man, dead on Oct. 4, 2023, at Safe Haven Mobile Home Park on Glendale Avenue.
A Crimestoppers tip helped locate Tyrone Jerry Briscone, a 44-year-old Macon man who was allegedly connected to Morgan’s death, deputies said in a news release.
Briscone was wanted in Bibb County on charges of murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, trafficking methamphetamine, and a probation violation. He was also wanted in Jones County for other charges.
The U.S. Marshals’ Southest Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Briscone just after 8 a.m. at a home on Mikado Avenue, the sheriff’s office said.
Briscone was taken to the Bibb County Jail and held without bond.
What we know about the shooting
Deputies found Morgan suffering from gunshot wounds just after 4 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2023, at the mobile home park, according to a previous news release.
Paramedics took him to Atrium Health Navicent hospital where he was pronounced dead, deputies said. No one else was injured in the incident.
The shooting was still under investigation Tuesday, following the arrest.
No one else has been arrested in this case, Sgt. Christopher Williams told The Telegraph.
