Driver hit pedestrian, then fled in south Macon; victim critically injured
A pedestrian was severely injured in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in south Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver did not stay at the scene, and deputies did not have a description of the suspect’s vehicle by Thursday afternoon, Capt. Linda Howard told The Telegraph.
A witness called 911 to report that a person had been hit by a vehicle around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday on Broadway, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Deputies responded and confirmed that a man had been “struck by a vehicle,” the news release said.
An ambulance took the victim to a hospital, where he was listed in “critical but stable condition” and remained hospitalized Thursday afternoon, deputies said.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately release the victim’s name because his family was not yet notified of the incident.
The accident was still under investigation Thursday.
Deputies urged anyone with information about the incident to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500.
