50-plus animals rescued from ‘deplorable conditions’ in Forsyth, 1 arrested
A man was arrested Friday in connection to an animal cruelty and hoarding case involving over 50 cats and dogs in Forsyth, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Eight puppies, 14 dogs and 36 cats were “all living in deplorable conditions” on a property on Hester Road, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Deputies had received several complaints in connection to the conditions.
Deputies investigated and learned Darrell Jones, 64, was allegedly connected to the situation.
They served a search warrant on the property around 3 p.m. Deputies attempted to speak with Jones but “he fled the area,” the sheriff’s office said.
Jones was “quickly apprehended” and taken into custody, a news release said.
He was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer; more charges were expected, deputies said.
All of the animals were rescued, but their conditions were unclear Friday evening.
Deputies urged anyone with related information to contact the sheriff’s office at 478-994-7010, or through social media.
