Warner Robins man to serve 10 years in prison for trafficking fentanyl, gun charges
A Warner Robins man admitted to trafficking fentanyl and possessing firearms on Thursday and was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison, according to Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards.
Christopher Thomas Smith, 34, pleaded guilty to one count of trafficking fentanyl and two counts of possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony. He received a 10-year prison sentence following his guilty plea, as well as an additional 30 years of probation and a $100,000 fine, Edwards said. Smith also has been banned from Houston County.
As part of his guilty plea, he also admitted to possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute in a 2023 case, for which he will serve a 10-year sentence, but it will alongside the fentanyl and gun possession sentence.
He will receive credit for the four months he served in jail waiting for his case to go through the courts system, which means he will serve nine years and six months in prison, according to court records.
“Let there be no confusion — fentanyl traffickers are not small-time drug dealers,” Edwards said. “They are peddling a poison that kills indiscriminately. Anyone found distributing this level of fentanyl in Houston County can expect to spend a long time in prison.”
Fentanyl-laced pills and 13 firearms recovered
The charges stem from a “months-long narcotics investigation” led by an investigator at the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. Smith had failed to appear in court on a previous court case, causing a bench warrant to be issued for his arrest, according to Edwards. Investigators discovered Smith was “actively distributing large quantities of methamphetamine and other narcotics from a camper located at 807 Collins Ave. in Warner Robins.”
The investigator conducted controlled buys of methamphetamine, “which led to a search warrant for the residence,” Edwards said. The search and arrest warrant were executed on Feb. 28 at the camper, where they found Smith hiding in the master bedroom.
They found over 100 grams of fentanyl-laced ecstasy pills, over 100 grams of methamphetamine, more than 200 grams of marijuana, numerous vape pens and items consistent with drug distribution and 13 firearms scattered throughout the camper, prosecutors said.
