A detainee died by suicide in the Bibb County Jail Monday night, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Correctional deputies found 41-year-old Wesley Kyle Gautney “unresponsive in his cell” just before 8 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office and Bibb County Coroner’s Office.
“Life-saving measures were provided until (emergency medical services) arrived,” deputies said in a news release.
Gautney was taken to Atrium Health Navicent hospital and treated for cardiac arrest, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the coroner’s office.
His body will undergo an autopsy. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the sheriff’s office’s Internal Affairs Division under its Office of Professional Standards are investigating the death.
“The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office extends our sympathies to the decedent’s family and all those affected by his passing,” the news release said.
