The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that happened Saturday morning, officials said.

The incident was called into 911 just before 6 a.m., the sheriff’s office said. Officers responded to the scene in the 800 block of Key Street and found a 62-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

“Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a medical facility for treatment,” the sheriff’s office said.

Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley said the victim later died from his injuries.

No other injuries were reported in the incident, and the sheriff’s office said the victim’s name wouldn’t be released at this time.

The circumstances of the shooting were under investigation Saturday morning. The sheriff’s office urged anyone with information on the case to call 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
