Warner Robins insurance agent accused of fraud, taking $220K from client
A former Alfa Insurance agent in Warner Robins was charged with bank fraud after directing his client to take out $220,000 to pay other clients’ insurance premiums, federal court records from Wednesday show.
Jeremy Lasseter allegedly told the client that the money they withdrew from their accounts with Robins Financial Credit Union and Planter First Bank would be used to pay their own insurance premiums. However, Lasseter “used the funds for other purposes, including to pay insurance premiums for other customers, without (the client’s) knowledge or permission,” court records show.
The incidents allegedly occurred from March 2020 through September 2023, according to court records. His first appearance and arraignment in court will be on May 29.
Lasseter faces the potential of a fine up to $1 million and a maximum possible prison sentence of 30 years if he’s convicted.
Jeff Helms, spokesperson for Alfa Insurance, said Lasseter was terminated as an independent exclusive agent on Sept. 27, 2023, for unrelated reasons.
“A subsequent review of Lasseter‘s book of business prompted Alfa to notify the Georgia Department of insurance and federal law enforcement,” Helms said. “Alfa has fully cooperated with law enforcement throughout the investigation and is eager to see justice served.”
