A Macon woman was arrested by Bibb County deputies on several charges including attempted murder after her infant was found in a trash bag, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The incident started Monday afternoon when Alaynah Rappuhn, 22, was dropped off at the Piedmont Macon Emergency Room by her boyfriend after he noticed she was bleeding excessively. Before the couple left home for the hospital, she placed a trash bag on the back porch, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

When her boyfriend returned to the house to grab some of their belongings, he noticed noises from the trash bag. Upon opening it, he found an infant wrapped in towels, deputies said.

The baby was transported to the hospital, the sheriff’s office said. Medical staff told deputies the male infant is in critical but stable condition.

Deputies said Rappuhn gave birth at approximately 4:30 a.m. that morning, then wrapped the infant in a towel and put him inside a trash bag.

Rappuhn did not tell her boyfriend that she was pregnant, nor that she had the child when he came home, deputies said. She also did not tell staff at the Piedmont Macon Emergency Room that she had a child when she arrived for treatment.

Rappuhn was taken into custody by Bibb County deputies Tuesday afternoon and was charged with criminal attempt to commit a felony murder, reckless abandonment of a child and first-degree cruelty to children. Her bond was denied, deputies said.
