Man attacked at park in downtown Macon, deputies say. Investigators seek help to ID suspect
An unknown suspect attacked a man who was sitting on bench in downtown Macon Monday, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred in daylight around 4 p.m. at Anderson Park on Orange and High streets, which is surrounded by a neighborhood of historic homes and apartments.
The victim was “struck in the head” while sitting in the park, deputies said.
The victim wore a hood over his head during the attack and could not see the person who attacked him, deputies said.
The victim was injured and taken to Atrium Health Navicent, which is across the street from the park. He was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately identify a suspect. It was unclear if a suspect was identified or arrested Wednesday morning.
The incident was being investigated as aggravated assault.
Deputies urged witnesses or anyone with video surveillance to call the sheriff’s office and ask to speak with Sgt. Steven Fields at 478-751-7500, or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
