Updated: Warner Robins elementary school briefly placed on ‘code yellow’ over incident.

A Houston County elementary school was on code yellow Thursday morning after a violent incident occurred nearby, according to the Warner Robins Police Department.

Officers initially mistakenly announced Miller Elementary School was on “code red,” but the Houston County Board of Education said it was a code yellow the whole time, according to Lt. Patrick Allen. Under code yellow, the school locked its exterior doors and carried on with normal operations.

Officers were investigating an alleged aggravated assault related to “family violence” around 9 a.m. at a house in the 600 block of North Briarcliff Road — two blocks away from Miller Elementary School.

The school was on code yellow “due to the proximity of the location to Miller Elementary School and the nature of the incident,” a news release from WRPD said.

A 28-year-old male suspect fled the house before cops arrived, officers said.

The school operated normally but locked all exterior doors “due to the suspect leaving the residence prior to law enforcement arrival,” Allen told The Telegraph.

A female victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The alleged aggravated assault was still under investigation around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Anyone with related information was urged to call Detective Ashley Strom at 478-302-5380, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 478-742-2330.

The police department did not release any other information.
