Man charged with murder in East Dublin New Year’s Eve shooting

A 38-year-old Statesboro man has been charged with murder in the New Year’s Eve shooting of a man in East Dublin.

Corey Michael Bergeson was arrested by Laurens County deputies Thursday and is being held at the Laurens County jail, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Deputies were dispatched after 8 p.m. to a home at 1590 U.S. 319 after receiving a 911 call that two people had been shot.

Antone Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene and 17-year-old Peter Vanderlin was taken to a hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies are looking for 29-year-old David Ray Woodard of East Dublin. Woodard is wanted for a murder charge and his whereabouts are unknown, according to a news release.

Woodard has numerous tattoos on both arms and his neck. He is thought to be in the company of 23-year-old Samantha Nicole Pruett, of Adrian. Pruett is a person of interest in the investigation, according to the release.

Sheriff Bill Harrell said his deputies are still investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. Information about Vanderlin’s condition was not immediately available.
