Macon man indicted in estranged wife's 2014 slaying

Bibb County grand jurors indicted a 44-year-old Macon man Tuesday in the February shooting death of his estranged wife.

Jasento L. Flowers Sr. is charged with malice murder, felony murder, obstruction, family violence-related battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and four counts of aggravated assault, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.

Flowers is accused of fatally shooting 38-year-old Bridgette Flowers in the head as she sat in the driver's seat of her minivan on Trinity Place Feb. 22.

Authorities have said he kept firing as other people in the van drove away toward Emery Highway. The aggravated assault charges stem from Flowers allegedly shooting at the people in the van. Jamecia Williams, 18, and Onterio Smith, 19, both of Macon, were injured in the shooting, according to police.

Jasento Flowers had been arrested about a week before the killing on allegations he punched his wife and knocked her out at a Macon Wal-Mart. He additionally is accused of striking a police officer in the head with his fist.

Convicted on a cocaine charge in 1992, Flowers was barred from having a gun, according to the indictment.

Flowers is being held at the Bibb County jail without bond, according to jail records.
