Inmate dies after he ‘collapsed’ at Bibb County Jail, sheriff’s office investigates
An incarcerated person died at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center Wednesday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Inmates told correctional deputies an “inmate collapsed and was unresponsive in his cell” around 3:30 p.m., a news release from the sheriff’s office said.
Jail medical staff attempted to perform “life saving measures” on the 60-year-old man, later identified at Eric Eugene Snyder, until emergency medical services arrived, according to deputies.
They took him to Atrium Health Navicent hospital where medical staff later pronounced him dead, Coroner Leon Jones told investigators. Family was notified of Snyder’s death.
“An autopsy will be performed due to this being an in-custody death,” the sheriff’s office said.
Snyder had been held in the jail since March 5, 2022, on aggravated assault and probation violation charges.
The sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards and Internal Affairs was investigating the incident.
