Five arrested after large dog hoarding case at Macon home. Animal shelter seeks help
Five people were arrested Tuesday in connection with an animal abuse case involving 20 dogs and 8 cats in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services described the incident as “a large cruelty/hoarding case,” according to a Facebook post.
Deputies responded to “a disturbance” and found the dogs around 9:30 a.m. at a home in the 600 block of Morrow Place, Sgt. Christopher Williams told The Telegraph.
The dogs were taken to county animal services. Its staff requested a volunteer to help clean the dogs who “desperately need baths” Wednesday, according to the Facebook post.
Suspects ages 24, 33, 42, 43 and 64 years old were arrested, Williams confirmed.
They each face a dozen counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
The suspects who are 33, 42 and 43 were also each charged with 16 counts of cruelty to animals; the 24-year-old with 13 counts, and the 64-year-old with 12 counts.
The 43-year-old was also charged with a misdemeanor for obstruction of officers and reckless conduct.
The animal services Facebook said there were 21 dogs impacted. Sonja Adams, animal enforcement manager, confirmed there were 20 dogs and 8 cats, not 21 dogs. One dog was initially accidentally counted twice.
The sheriff’s office and animal shelter did not immediately respond to The Telegraph’s request for comment.
