The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to an unfounded bomb threat in downtown Macon on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025.

A bomb threat was reported at a downtown Macon office building Tuesday morning, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a phone call just after 9 a.m. regarding a threat to the Gateway Plaza building on Mulberry Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the sheriff’s office said.

An explosive ordnance disposal unit swept and evacuated the building, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office around 2 p.m.

“Deputies were able to evacuate all employees and patrons inside of the building and set a perimeter surrounding the area to avoid anyone approaching the building,” Deputy Alexis Mitchell-White told The Telegraph.

Surrounding streets were closed for about two hours after the report and reopened around 11 a.m.

“No device was found,” deputies said.

Everyone was safe and no injuries were reported, Mitchell-White said.

An incident report was not yet available and it was still under investigation Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said.
