A deputy with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office was fired last week and arrested Friday for allegedly bringing drugs and other contraband into the county jail, the sheriff’s office announced Friday.

The correctional division deputy, Misty Nichole Romeo, was terminated Tuesday for violating oath while being investigated for “giving inmates contraband” at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Romeo was arrested Friday when the investigation determined she brought “tobacco, K2 synthetic marijuana ... (and) a cellular phone” into the jail while on duty, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office special investigations unit and Perry Police Department arrested Romeo in Houston County. She was wanted in Bibb County on several warrants, deputies said.

Romeo faces four felony charges, including giving inmates contraband, attempt or conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, use of communication facility in commission of a felony involving controlled substances, and violation of oath by a public officer.

She was denied bond and held in the jail where she had once worked as of Monday afternoon, according to Sgt. Christopher Williams. The incident was still under investigation Monday.
