The Warner Robins Police Department SWAT Team arrested an armed man Tuesday who allegedly severely injured another man by hitting him with a gun, police said.

The SWAT Team was called after Johnny Knight and another man got into a “verbal altercation,” at 201 Johns Road around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, which escalated when Knight began “striking (the victim) several times in the face with a firearm causing severe injuries,” the police department said.

“Due to the nature of the crime and the suspect being armed,” the SWAT Team was activated to apprehend the man after a potential standoff at a local home, police said Tuesday morning.

Police initially responded to the incident location for aggravated battery, but when they searched for Knight at a family member’s home at 209 Wisconsin Ave., they couldn’t “make contact with anyone inside” despite seeing movement in the home.

Knight was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon without incident, and transported to a local hospital at his request for medical treatment, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition, according to the media release.

The 200 Block of Wisconsin Avenue was cleared Tuesday afternoon and traffic can resume as usual, police said.

Anyone with information related to this incident can call detectives at 478-302-5380 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
