A man found dead in a downtown Macon alleyway Sunday morning was “struck several times in the head,” the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The Bibb County Coroner’s Office identified the 59-year-old as Albert Kenneth Knight and a homicide investigation has been launched. A preliminary investigation found Knight died from a “severe head wound,” deputies said.

Deputies responded after the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center received a call at 11:47 a.m. Sunday regarding a man found dead in an alley on First Street Lane, near Second and Poplar streets.

Family have been notified of Knight’s death, according to Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones.

Knight’s body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.

“Investigators continue to work this incident and are committed to utilizing the full resources that law enforcement can provide to resolve this case,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

Anyone with information related to Knight’s death is urged to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
