Man critically injured outside north Macon internet cafe

A 24-year-old man was critically injured about 10 p.m. Saturday outside Action Stop Internet Cafe, 3780 Northside Drive, according to Macon police.

Security at the business told police that Shawn Surley came into the cafe carrying a black bag and refused to show his ID. An employee asked him to leave repeatedly. Outside, Surley attempted to draw a handgun from inside his bag, according to a police report. The employee pushed Surley away and went back inside, the report said.

Surley told police “the bouncer” hit him.

The business’s owner said the employee was off duty and was not working as a bouncer.

The altercation occurred outside, not in the business, said the owner, who requested that she not be identified by name.

Witnesses say another man took Surley into the parking lot, took Surley’s cell phone and bag and left in a gold Honda Accord, according to the report.

When authorities arrived after responding to a call about a fight, they found Surley on the ground in the parking lot.

Medical personnel at The Medical Center of Central Georgia said Surley had pieces of bone lodged inside his brain and some internal bleeding in the brain, according to the report.

He was listed in stable condition Monday, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 751-7500 or Macon Regional CrimeStoppers at (877) 68-CRIME.
