Murder charge filed in fatal shooting on Montpelier Avenue in Macon

Investigators have made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday after 6 p.m. on Montpelier Avenue near downtown Macon.
April Powell, 43, of Macon was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection to the death of Ernestine Frye, 49. She was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Navicent, according to Coroner Leon Jones.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the 2300 block of Montpelier after a call came in to the E-911 Emergency Center reporting a person had been shot.
Deputies found Frye suffering from a single gunshot wound. Paramedics transported her to a medical facility for treatment.
Powell was transported from investigations headquarters to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and faces a murder charge. She is currently being held without bond.
No details were immediately released about what led up to the shooting, or how the two women are connected.
