South Bibb County shooting leaves man dead in Macon’s first homicide of 2024, cops say
A Macon man died in a shooting early Sunday morning in south Bibb County, marking Macon’s first homicide of 2024, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Clifford Tyrone Browner, 42, died at 4:18 a.m. Sunday after he was shot in the 1000 block of Triple Hill Drive just off Houston Avenue near Interstate 75 in south Macon, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Browner had multiple gunshot wounds when deputies arrived at the scene after a 911 call reported the shooting at about 3:30 a.m.
Browner was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
No one else was injured in the shooting, the sheriff’s office said. Details about what led up to the shooting, or who else may have been involved were not immediately released. The death is still under investigation.
Macon’s second homicide of 2024 happened less than two days later and less than one mile north of the site of Browner’s death when Tavores Maurice Pearson, 44, was fatally shot Monday night, also on Houston Avenue.
