Two Middle GA women charged with stealing more than $65,000 from community service board
Two Middle Georgia women have been indicted on charges that they used fraudulent or stolen checks to steal more than $65,000 from a local community service board.
Latina Thompson, 43 of Sandersville, and Sheldonna Williams, 39 of Haddock, were indicted on charges of racketeering, forgery and theft for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the Oconee Center Community Service Board, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced Tuesday.
The Oconee Center Community Service Board provides behavioral health services to six counties and is headquartered in Milledgeville.
“Community Service Boards play an important role in every one of our communities by delivering behavioral health treatment and services to our most vulnerable citizens,” Carr said. “Whether an agency employee or a member of the public, anyone who unlawfully obtains funds intended to sustain this critical mission will be held accountable.
“We will not tolerate this type of criminal activity as we continue to support our state’s ongoing efforts to ensure all Georgians have access to quality mental health and wellness care.”
The women were indicted by a Baldwin County grand jury on July 10. This case was investigated by the Milledgeville Police Department and the State of Georgia Office of the Inspector General.
“The indictment in this case shows the partnership of both agencies working together for justice of these crimes,” Milledgeville Police Chief Dray Swicord said.
