The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputy Alex Fletcher was arrested June 8 for public intoxication. The sheriff’s office said Fletcher was attending a task force training held at the Drug Enforcement Administration headquarters in Virginia at the time.
A daily incident report from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reported only one public intoxication arrest from June 8 just before 3 a.m. that morning, matching the Bibb sheriff’s office report on when Fletcher was arrested.
Fletcher was found passed out in the road near a Best Western hotel, where a deputy smelled alcohol on his breath, according to the daily report from Stafford County. When a deputy asked for Fletcher’s name, Fletcher said “you.”
“Considering (the deputy) was not ‘you,’ the deputy placed the suspect under arrest for public intoxication,” the report said.
Fletcher then started making vulgar remarks, according to the statement. He later apologized when was at the magistrate’s office and “realized the gravity of the situation,” the report said.
He was held at Virginia’s Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Fletcher was put on paid leave after the arrest.
