Police are searching for a driver after a hit-and-run collision killed a Macon woman on a moped Tuesday night in north Macon, officials said.

Hoa Tran, 48, was driving her moped behind Belk’s at the Shoppes at River Crossing on Riverside Drive at about 9 p.m. when she was hit by a truck, according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency services took Tran, who was immobile but conscious at the scene, to a local hospital, where she died at around 10:30 p.m., Bibb coroner Leon Jones said. Her next of kin were notified.

Bibb sheriff’s deputies began searching for the truck, a white Toyota Tacoma, after they learned the driver left the scene after they hit Tran. The driver was headed through the parking lot towards Wesleyan Drive when they hit Tran, briefly stopped, then continued in the same direction.

The sheriff’s office released surveillance photos of the truck and asked for help identifying the driver.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
