Macon woman killed in hit-and-run on Rocky Creek Road, police search for driver
A Macon woman died Wednesday night when she was struck in a hit-and-run on Rocky Creek Road, officials said.
Tracie Yvonne Pitts, 46, was crossing the 2400 block of Rocky Creek Road near Bloomfield Road at about 9:45 p.m. when a car hit her, according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Pitts died at the scene, deputy coroner Lonnie Miley said. Her next of kin was notified.
The driver that hit Pitts was still at large Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said in the statement.
The owner of the car drove it back to the scene and spoke with investigators, telling them a man nicknamed “D” was “test driving” her car at the time of the collision. After he allegedly hit Pitts, “D” drove the car back to the owner and told her she needed to go to Rocky Creek Road.
The Bibb sheriff’s office asked for the public’s help in a search for a “shade tree” mechanic named “D,” the statement read.
The pedestrian death comes after three different crashes in Macon Saturday left one dead and four severely injured.
