A naked and intoxicated Macon man driving a stolen private ambulance with no lights on Thursday night tried to elude a sheriff’s deputy before he was caught and arrested, officials said.

The man, Bradley Jermaine Baker, 48, a Florida sex offender who allegedly has more than once failed to register his Macon address as required by law, was charged with DUI, public indecency and other crimes related to the 10 p.m. incident.

A Bibb County sheriff’s deputy noted in an arrest warrant that he spotted the blue-and-white 2009 Chevy ambulance along Eisenhower Parkway near the Interstate 475 interchange. There had been earlier reports of the vehicle “doing burnouts” in a parking lot near Mercer University Drive, sheriff’s officials said in Facebook post.

The ambulance, apparently owned by a local man, was being driven “aggressively” with no headlights on, sheriff’s officials said.

Baker allegedly ignored a deputy’s flashing lights and refused to stop before wheeling into the Regency Inn & Suites motel on Brookhaven Road.

Baker then, “while completely nude and in full view of the public in the parking lot,” tried to run away, the warrant stated, adding that Baker appeared to be under the influence of cocaine or spice.

He was indicted last February on charges that he had failed to register as a sex offender on charges related to a sex crime in 1997 in Volusia County, Florida. In that case, he served about three years behind bars for lewd assault and sexual battery of a child under the age of 16.

It was not clear from his arrest warrant in the ambulance matter how the vehicle allegedly came into Baker’s possession.

However, an incident report noted that Baker and its owner both live at the same address near Log Cabin and Mercer University drives, and that Baker was employed by the owner as a painter.
