Woman, 49, slain in south Macon shooting near Pio Nono and Newberg avenues, Bibb cops say

A woman was shot and killed Monday morning in a south Macon neighborhood just east of Pio Nono Avenue, Bibb County sheriff’s officials said.

The shooting was reported at about 9:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Baker Drive, which runs off Newberg Avenue about a mile south of Eisenhower Parkway.

The victim, Claudette June Brown, 49, was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to a sheriff’s statement sent to news outlets.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” the statement said, adding that Brown was taken to the hospital “by personal vehicle” in the wake of the shooting.
