UPDATE: Man arrested for murder in connection with fatal Macon shooting near Vineville

Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for murder in connection with the death of a man on Clisby Place Wednesday, officials said.

Authorities arrested Quartez Marquis Johnson, 34, Wednesday afternoon after investigators linked him to the death of Eddie Davis that morning, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told investigators they saw Johnson walking on the 4900 block of Riverside Drive near the Shoppes at River Crossing, where deputies eventually found and arrested him.

Earlier Wednesday morning deputies found Eddie Lee Davis, 65, unresponsive with a single gunshot wound to his chest on the 200 block of Clisby Place just off of Vineville Avenue in Macon.

The man was in the back seat of a Chevy Impala which had been reported to Macon-Bibb 911 as an abandoned vehicle at about 9:30 a.m.

Davis’s next of kin have been notified, according to Bibb coroner Leon Jones. The investigation was still ongoing.

Johnson was questioned and taken to Bibb County Law Enforcement Center where he is being held without bond for murder.

The death comes on the heels of another person dead of a single gunshot wound. Dakari Faulkner, 23, was found with a gunshot wound on Willis Drive Friday night and died at a local hospital.
