A security guard at bar on Pio Nono Avenue near Rocky Creek Road in south Macon who was critically wounded in a shooting early Saturday died Sunday.

The victim, Jermaine Stewart, 46, was shot in the head at about 4 a.m. Saturday at the Rodeo Bar & Grill, which is in a shopping plaza at 4053 Pio Nono Ave.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Stewart died at a local hospital, where he had been taken for treatment.

Stewart’s death marks the county’s 50th homicide of 2022 and comes amid a weekend that saw two other men slain in separate shootings late Saturday and early Sunday.

According to a sheriff’s statement, Stewart was shot during an “altercation” inside the bar in which “multiple people were involved and made to leave the bar.”

The statement further noted that “as the subjects were leaving multiple shots were fired by unknown subjects.”
