Bibb County coroner identifies Macon boy, 16, killed in late-night shooting near Pio Nono

A Macon teenager was shot to death and two other people were wounded when gunfire erupted Monday at what Bibb County sheriff’s officials described as a late-night “gathering” at a vacant lot in a neighborhood just east of Pio Nono Avenue.

Coroner Leon Jones said the slain youth, Hakeem Flowers, 16, died at the scene in the 2300 block of Mason Street, a block east of Pio Nono and just south of Anthony Road.

“During the gathering, a dispute started and shots were fired by multiple people,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

A woman, 30, and a man, 29, were wounded.

Investigators announced Tuesday they arrested the 29 year old, Kendra Hubbard, and charged him with murder in connection with Flowers’ death. He was booked into the Bibb County jail after he was released from a local hospital.

It was not clear what prompted the shootings.

Flowers, who turned 16 earlier this month, had lived on Fletcher Street about half a mile from the shooting scene. He is the county’s 31st homicide victim of 2022.
